1. Sungai Congkak Recreational Forest
First on our list is a local favourite. Nestled in a cool and hilly part of Hulu Langat, Sungai Congkak Recreational Forest offers basic chalets and large camping grounds that are surrounded by verdant rainforest and a crystal-clear river. There are ample facilities like restrooms, barbecue pits and gazebos, however they are not well maintained. The camping grounds is quite large and you won’t have any trouble finding a suitable spot to pitch your tent. If you’re planning on carrying lots of equipment, you can pay to drive inside and park your vehicle next to your camping spot.

2. Resort Taman Rimba Komanwel
Located at the fringes of the Bukit Lagong forest reserve, Taman Eko Rimba Komanwel is part of a famous trio of forest parks located next to each other, with the other two being Templer’s Park and Taman Eko Rimba Kanching (home to the famous Kanching Waterfalls). Those wishing to stay overnight may opt to camp overnight at the highly rated Resort Taman Rimba Komanwel. Featuring a large campsite surrounding a scenic pond that’s suitable for water activities, Resort Taman Rimba Komanwell offers excellent facilities that will please fellow campers like clean toilets, kitchen, prayer room, barbecue areas, and even a cafe that serves local delights!

3. Hammocks By The River
Super popular with a petite-sized campsite, Hammocks By The River is often packed with eager campers. Despite its surging popularity, there’s a calm and chilled out vibe here, making it an excellent place to get away from busy city life. Well equipped with toilets, barbecue facilities, a clubhouse and hammocks, the campsite also offers a full camping package (just bring food, they provide the rest) that’s great for beginners

4. The Nest At MAEPS Serdang
Tucked within the confines of MAEPS Serdang, The Nest offers a small camping grounds that sits beside a picturesque lake with a horse ranch nearby. Campers will feel at home here with clean toilets, fire pits and kitchen sinks. Despite its diminutive size, the campsite still manages to punch above its weight by offering exciting activities like archery, kayaking, wilderness cooking, tree climbing and more to complement your camping experience.
5. Rumah Kebun Camping Ground
Just a 45-minute drive from Kuala Lumpur, Rumah Kebun Camping Grounds has been making rounds on social media, thanks to its instaworthy azure blue pool that’s fed by natural spring water! Flanked by a gorgeous river and tall leafy trees that offer a comfortable respite from the afternoon heat, it’s also a great spot to set up your tents. There are several camping sites equipped with toilets and barbecue area to choose from, that’s perfect for a weekend out with family or a group of friends
6. Hutlista 2
Located on the green fringes of Selayang, Hutan Lipur Sungai Tua (or Hutlista for short) is a recreational park that’s popular with families, who frequents the place for picnics by the river. For those wishing to stay overnight, there’s a rather well maintained campsite with ample spots to pitch your tents, as well as public toilets, gazebos and fire pits that are suitable for having barbecues.

7. Moonkissed By The River
Nestled in a hidden corner along the Semungkis river, Moon Kiss Camp offers up a rustic camping site by the river that includes amenities like toilets with showers, a 24-hour cafe and fire pits to have your barbecue. A long dirt road separates the campsite from the parking lot, and may not be accessible for normal vehicles due to rough terrain (you can either walk the distance or hitch a ride on a 4×4 to get there)
