We all dream of flying to America one day to see the world famous Niagara Falls with our own eyes. But did you know that we have our very own mini “Niagara Falls” right here in our own backyard?

Also known as Ampang Pecah or Alor Lempah, this majestic waterfall is located along the Selangor River in Kuala Kubu Bharu, just under a two hour drive from Kuala Lumpur.
Getting here is relatively easy, simply search for ‘Alor Lempah’ or ‘Ampang Pecah’ on your preferred navigation app, and follow the directions to get here.

The waterfall is actually a man-made weir, used for purposes of flood mitigation and spans across the width of the river. It’s especially impressive if it rained the night before, when the water volume is high.
The river banks running along both sides of this gentle river are grassy and flanked with tall leafy trees, providing plenty of room to roll out your picnic mat by the riverside near the waterfall. There’s even a small islet in the middle of river if you want to be extra close to the waterfall.
You can also pitch your tent and camp here for the day and even overnight, however keep in mind that you’ll be doing a bit of wild camping as the place is a bit lacking facilities wise. There are a few gazebos but no public toilets or changing rooms just yet, maybe in the near future.

Due to its recent popularity, the best spots are taken up fairly quickly, especially during weekends. It’s advisable to head over here as early in the morning as possible if you want the best spots to yourself.
Pictures don’t do the place justice, you’ll need to see this place to believe it
